NamWater was registered as a company on 9 December 1997. We are a commercialised water utility, not a privatised one: the Government of the Republic of Namibia is our sole shareholder and acts through a Board of Directors.
Our services are delivered through five decentralised Business Units: North-West, North-East, Central, Coastal and South.
We abstract, treat and convey water in bulk to municipalities, local authorities, mines, industries and the Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation.
Of the rain that falls on Namibia, only about 1% recharges groundwater. Our hydrologists monitor rainfall, rivers, dams and aquifers to plan every drop.
The NamWater Laboratory in Windhoek offers water quality analysis on request, with qualified staff and modern equipment.
Untreated water can carry organisms such as Cryptosporidium. Our purification plants make sure the water we supply is safe to drink.
Under the Namibia Water Sector Support Programme, supported by the African Development Bank, we are expanding capacity in the north.
Vocational training at the Von Bach Water Treatment Plant in water treatment, plumbing, pump operation and technical trades.
Percentage of capacity at Namibia's main dams. The three central dams supplying Windhoek hold 89.2 million m³ (57.7%). A new bulletin is published every Monday.
Download dam bulletinWater from dams, border rivers, aquifers and the sea is abstracted at our schemes.
Treatment plants remove organisms and impurities so the water is safe to drink.
Our Windhoek laboratory monitors water quality across every NamWater scheme.
Pipelines and canals deliver water to towns, mines, industry and rural supply.
Each Business Unit is headed by a Chief Water Supply based in its area. Find the office closest to you.
